About Yuval Peres

Yuval Peres is a mathematician working in probability theory and its applications to Fractals, Combinatorics and Computer Science. He wrote his PhD thesis on limit measures for random walks on Fuchsian groups, mentored by Hillel Furstenberg.
Among his notable works are the solution of the Erdos-Taylor conjecture on thick points for random walks in Two dimensions (Acta Mathematica, joint work with Dembo, Rosen and Zeitouni) and the connection between cover times for random walks and the Gaussian free field (Annals of Mathematics, joint with Ding and Lee).
In recent years, much of his research has been on the interface of statistical learning and probability, especially on the trace reconstruction problem for the deletion channel.
